Doll was born Dorothee-Hermina Feinberg on the 15 May 1922 in Berlin and moved with her family to Paris in 1924. She followed drama lessons at the Conservatoire in Paris and figured as an extra in several films of the 1930s including Hotel du Nord. When war broke out she moved to the south of France where she continued to perform in the theatre. The actress’s career breakthrough came with her role in Becker’s Touchez-pas au Grisbi with Jean Gabin and Lino Ventura but the roles which followed, although plentiful, tended to typecast her as dim-witted and flighty blonde. Doll’s career began to wane in the 1960s but she made a comeback in the 1970s with a series of quality films with some of France’s most respected directors including Bertrand Blier, Claude Chabrol and Jean-Jacques Annaud.
